A) Let's say that I don't own any XYZ anymore after trading it for a quick profit.

B) Let's say I decide to keep it for the rest of the year.

Any difference in the two scenarios?

I'm a little dense when it comes to these matters...what do you mean by: ". the first set can be rolled into the second which would
change the basis of your investment in the second set.... thus....all this carries over into 1998.."?
