TJ, you have fallen victim to TDS . I'm sure Big D doesn't think China will experience a slump simply because he charges tariffs on imports to USA. A big Made in China tariff does make sense as China robbed Qualcomm of a $billion [a popular political process indulged by Korea and outgoing USA Obama gang too in conspiracy with Apple]. China steals intellectual property so recompense is reasonable.

4715 years is a lot of history. Hopefully not much of the bad kind happens this one. As Jack Ma of Alibaba explained, a lot of USA's decline is related to umpty$trillion going to the horrors of many pointless wars. Hopefully Big D stops the rot and turns it around. It's not a zero sum game TJ - so China does not need to go downhill just because USA ramps up. When one place ramps up, it enables others to also ramp up by selling to the ramper.

So, for example, Maoris lived as cannibal stone age people until the English came along and introduced capitalism, trade, common law and all the good stuff. Both English and Maoris benefited greatly. Chinese who could escape the barbarity of Mao's maelstrom and get to NZ also did well. Hong Kong was leased to England and you too did very well from the great and wonderful British Empire. As did your ancestors.
