Thomas Edison was a trial and error inventor but brilliant nonetheless.......it doesn't take a PhD to be smart but having one makes you a helluva lot smarter......I've know a lot without PhD's that are very smart and creative but those with PhD's are much more likely to succeed. High tech companies do most of the technical recruiting for PhD's .....they hit the ground running and need very little training on the job. They have already spent 4-7 years doing their own research on which their thesis is written.... btw, most PhD's being hired right now come from India or China.....American kids don't seem to want to do the work past a Masters... Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard and started a software company when computer science was almost non-existent in universities....Rockefeller was a business man who bought a railroad and had oil wells, not much invention required there......Einstein did have a PhD and was one of the smartest guys in the history of the world.....Disney was a cartoonist, Branson went to very good schools but had dyslexia and did poorly in school....his parents were entrepreneurs and he became one too....an excellent one at that.. Dickens had a talent for writing starting as an office boy and then moving on to become a reporter......books followed that... And the Colonel picked up his skill in the Goober Nation and got rich, in your eyes successful.....didn't do shit for the welfare of the country but the Chinese love his chicken...
