Now, at the time the Second Amendment was written, the “arms” in “bear arms” were long rifles that fired one bullet at a time.

And the press was hand cranked presses with moveable blocks of type.

The “well-regulated militia” was a local group, like a contemporary National Guard unit


Local group, often raised by a town, using their own weapons and with less connection to the state/colony, perhaps none, and no connection to the national government unlike a national guard unit which is a combination state and federal unit using government issued weapons.

Which is to a large extent besides the point since the 2nd amendment doesn't say "the right of militia members to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" but rather "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"
