As you say with some understatement, Purges and Revolutions are exhausting.

No one in their right mind operates a business or any other organization with purges. It's merely a thug pretending to be a competent manager. Stalin operated this was because he was a murderous alcoholic who drove his economy into the ground.

Mao's Great Leap Forward organized every village to make their own iron smelting plant which wasted enormous resources producing unusable iron while sending educated people to work as unskilled farm laborers in one of the world's most preeminent examples of wastelism.

I'm sure it sounded like a great "new jobs program" when Mao announced it - but after years of chaos China got back to business.
