Hi Paul: It seems that since about 1985 the Wanapitei Park area near Sudbury where the gold showings are was a Provincial Park and in 1997 they managed to get the gold areas severed from the Park and gave the exploration rights to Flag last fall. The Prov Gov, the Wanapitei First Nation, Sudbury politicians and a couple of Gov agencies have OK ed Flags plans. During the '30's some locals dug a couple of trenches to get the gold that was visible. But it was of a type that made its extraction difficult--I'm no geologist. The ore is the same type as that found at Hemlo and has been easily refined since the early '80s when Flag went back to look at the area. So no drilling seems to be related to the difficulty of getting the ore milled and once that was overcome the new Park stopped all exploration for about 14 years. The Nickel and base metals are a similar story of drilling being stopped by Gov action until 1996 and of course the focus on the Sudbury Basin which is about 30 miles to the west. That is about what I know in summary form. You can get more details at the Flag web page: flagresources.com
and you can call Flag at the number shown on the web site and if the Pres is still there --he is going to sudbury on Wed to look at the first gold core---he can give you all the details I can't.
