The Electoral College purpose is to inhibit the emergence of new party.

I'm actually for eliminating the Office of the President and going with a Prime Minister who is elected by a coalition gov't. Small parties can grow and become relevant far more quickly because the need to have a majority coalition in order to form a gov't and then elect a PM. You can't just sit on your gold throne and crap on the majority of the country as with our current system.

There was a Left Wing Porch on SI 15-20 years ago. It was composed primarily of 3 woman and me. One woman was Poet, the other was Epicure (Unknown X at the time) and an Indian woman (forget her name). The Indian woman was socially liberal and very chill and nice, but she was not Left wing. Poet was socially wild, but I hardly ever heard her speak of Politics. She began to ban right wing people when banning became an option on SI. Epicure (the Unknown X) was the prize of the thread. She was very eloquent and quite radical in her views. I enjoyed her posts very much. It seems that the Right Wing went after epicure back then and she did not know how to handle it. She basically flipped out big time and that just fed into the Right wing going after her even more strongly. Now I never saw epicure getting attacked by the Right on SI or I would've defended her and supported her. But I did not post all that often on that thread. I was basically a stock market/equity poster. When epicure came out of this, she was never the same. She lost her radical self, which I found so appealing and she moved more to the center and started her own threads and began banning people over the slightest disagreements. It's a shame what happened to her because I really liked her as the Unknown X. She even had a very cool Greek handle for a while, but I forget the name.
