vincent, when you are the leader, you most certainly should expect your competitors to be going after you. The point I was really trying to make was don't sell short the boxmakers ability to be profitable in the sub 1000 market. The fact is that 1000 has been the resistance level for many first time purchasers and overall I think that pc demand would languish until that hurdle is overcome. The companies I would be concerned about would be those such as Packard Bell, Acer, etc. Once consumers realize they can buy a quality product from HP or Compaq, the others will continue to fade. I agree with your point about Intel inside, though. However Intel continues to cut prices on it's chips and I wouldn't be surprised that if future sub 1000 Compaq units have that choice, too. bp
