You can begin to take SS at 62, but you only get 3/4 benefits. Full benefits are at 66/67 pending when you were born. For me, it's 66. 70 is extended benefits. If you live past 82-83, it pays to wait till you are 70 to take SS benefits. I plan on taking SS at 66. I am looking forward to going on Medicare in a little over 15 months since I haven't had a prescription drug plan in over 30 years. Here's hoping my health holds out.
