The social research on this subject has been done in the US so it almost certainly is based on participation in Christian churches. Pretty sure it holds up well for Buddhism, also because I am married to one :). Could easily think of at least one religion, which wouldn't so easily check in here, though. But that is my personal believing only, would need some scientific testing to be confirmed - or not.
