Given that easily half of government borrowing is a racket to allow the rich not to pay for their protection against the poor, what's wrong with trimming the bastards' return?
This is just silly. The poor and the middle classes depend a lot more on living in an orderly society than the rich do. The rich can take care of themselves, and it would cost them a small fraction of what they pay in taxes - of which they do pay a lion's share.

Besides, I'm one of those "bastards" - and so is everyone who saved anything for retirement. The politicians pay us nothing in return for borrowing our money - and plan to save the world by having our savings melt away. Some fine foundation for a society that is!
