I know arm-chair science fans like yourself struggle with science but you need to realize what you call science, e.g. "peak-oil" while it fires your imagination is just an urban-legend.

To the extent scientists enter the political arena and advocate for specific policies, they legitimately open themselves up to political attack.

But they should be safe from legal attack for their advocacy. Denounced by politicians? Sure. Sued or prosecuted? No.

That should apply to their opponents as well, but unfortunately many global warming alarmists don't agree.
