That is fair even though Obama obviously made every effort to stay out of that lime light. Well, duh. That is how the SoS has traditionally been used. It gives the other side a way to negotiate and save face at the same time. The SoS provides the hard ass side. The president is the one who is open to negotiation. A smart leader always has someone to play the hard ass. Call it a variation on the good cop/bad cop routine. As to Trump, if you think things are bad now, just wait. He has made things markedly worse in just a couple of weeks.
