I understand and I'm not knocking it. I'm just saying that isn't where the science is. One thing is that no one is trying to misrepresent the science on GMO. It is what it is.

The reference to "Science denial" is, of course, a derivative of the attack on those who have independent thinking (i.e., not bought and paid for with taxpayer dollars) about AGW and the danger it poses. The big difference is that the science on AGW sucks.

People can believe what they'd like but they need to keep it in context: the fact that it takes more proof and less bullshit to convince a "conservative" should come as a surprise to no one. That's why we're conservatives. Not every moment is hair-on-fire.

You will find an almost uniform protestation that GMO crops are safe. However, I speak as someone who knows they are not safe for everyone. Corn- (regular corn, which is all modified, not organic)- in almost any concentration, gives me wild gastric issues. After about 20 minutes I begin to vomit- sustained, frequently projectile- and then after, well, the other end. It took years to figure out what was causing me to be ill (and my search, interestingly, is documented on SI- since I started getting sick in the 90's- and I used to talk to my friends here about it). I did not realize until 2004, when me moved to Scotland, that it was corn- because corn is in so many products (modified food starch- corn, food starch- corn, baking powder- has corn starch, powdered sugar- has cornstarch, etc).

There were some particularly snotty people on SI who told me it was all in my head (which was pretty funny, since I spent years being sick because I did not know what was going on- kind of the opposite of all in your head.). Now that I avoid GMO corn products, I'm fine. Interestingly, it's a genetic thing. All 3 of my children have the same sensitivity.

I've begun to see more and more adds in magazines for people with chronic and unpredictable diarrhea- and I just have to wonder, if they have something similar to me, but don't know it (it's not like anyone in our culture encourages things like elimination diets- they just throw pills at you. My doctor game me IBS medicine, even though he had no clue what was going on.)

So remain skeptical. I have no idea of GMO products are safe for anyone, but they definitely are not safe for everyone.
