PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 5, 1998--

Intel-based Line Breaks $800 Price Barrier with Innovative,

Easy-to-use Imaging and Internet Capabilities

Hewlett-Packard Company today announced an exclusively Intel-based family of HP Pavilion PCs expected to start at $799
(U.S.). Designed for MMX(TM) technology-enhanced multimedia and ease of use, the new PCs combine exciting imaging
and Internet features with industry-leading quality and customer care.

The new line features new models, including the following:

-- model 3260: 200MHz Pentium(R) processor with MMX technology, for an estimated street price of $799;

-- model 8240: 233MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology, offering unsurpassed value, expandability and power,
with a minitower design, for an estimated street price of $1,099;

-- model 8260: 266MHz Pentium II processor, for an estimated street price of $1,699;

-- model 8275: 300MHz Pentium II processor and DVD, for an estimated street price of $1,999.

Achieving high value by fusing performance, reliability and ease of use, HP sets a new standard with the HP 1,000-Point
Quality Inspection. HP conducts more than 1,000 tests to ensure each HP Pavilion PC meets HP's rigorous criteria for quality,
simplicity and compatibility with HP's other products.

"HP and Intel are committed to providing value and performance for a broad range of uses," said Ed Bauer, vice president of
North America Marketing and Sales at Intel. "With the Intel Pentium II and Pentium processor with MMX technology, HP
delivers powerful, compelling solutions to meet the various needs of consumers."

The advanced imaging and Internet capabilities of the HP Pavilion PCs are enhanced by Intel's Pentium II and Pentium
processors with MMX technology. The combination of MMX technology and the performance of Intel processors provides
an ultra-realistic environment for 3D gaming and graphical programs, and for imaging, video and audio applications.(1)

"Our new line of PCs demonstrates we're focused on what matters most to consumers," said Harry W. (Webb) McKinney,
general manager of HP's Home Products Division. "Even consumers paying less than $1,000 want high-quality, easy-to-use
multimedia PCs they can trust to work without compromising the most reliable and cutting-edge technologies."

Best for Imaging, Ideal for Internet

New features include the Personal Creativity Studio so HP Pavilion users can e-mail photos, create personalized greeting
cards -- even produce home videos with special effects. HP Pavilion PCs also include an enhanced color-matching system
from HP Labs, ensuring the brilliant colors on the HP display are exactly what prints out on HP color printers.

HP was the first to offer a home PC with one-touch Internet access. One keyboard button automatically launches the
exclusive custom browser for easy surfing through predefined selections of news, sports and entertainment information. Users
also get 50 free hours of Internet access to explore the World Wide Web and access the HP At Home Web site.

Right for the Home, Trusted for Quality

Polk Audio stereo speakers are included throughout the line for audiophile-quality sound. TV-out capabilities allow users to
display DVD, World Wide Web and multimedia content on their television screens. HP's one-touch display-tuning optimizes
viewing settings, such as color, balance and brightness for imaging, gaming and productivity applications, and enables users to
select and save custom settings.

HP Pavilion PC owners receive exceptional service through HP Customer Care service and support -- offering a one-year
limited hardware warranty -- and the HP support center. HP's Customer Care Promise ensures consumers' calls for support
will be answered within three minutes or the caller receives a free 15-minute prepaid phone card. The HP support center, a
comprehensive online tool, empowers owners to answer questions and resolve problems on their own.

Note to Editors: (1) The performance of microprocessors can be assessed by measuring three types of computations: integer,
floating point, and multimedia. Integer processing drives word processing and spreadsheet programs; floating point processing
is critical in 3-D gaming and advanced graphical programs; and, multimedia computing encompasses imaging, video and audio
applications. Intel processors are designed to offer balanced performance in all three areas.
