See how CA handles mountain lions.......... and they sure as hell don't kill them if they can avoid it... Your case I think was justified but sad. I have witnessed many animals killing other animals as prey..... We now have coyotes here and I a have seen them get their prey.... I've see hawks sweep down and carry away baby ducks and geese, foxes catch rabbits (and probably missing cats), cats catching hundreds of birds, .... I came across a hawk eating a rabbit when I was looking for a golf ball and the sucker stared me down from about 5 feet away... Just nature....
