That Ukranian coup was incredibly stupid. But no point in crying over spilt milk.

In addition to the other stuff, Iran is a buffer against Sunnis moving into Russian sphere. While US is in Afghanistan it stops or slows the infiltration of Islamists from there. There's a bunch of things to think about. Who knows what the relative importance of these things are for US and Russia?

What is important for Putin's future is that the Russian economy grows.

What's important for Trump is not to get badly stuck in M East.

And it's possible that in about a year and a half the EU might start to look visibly unglued. Half the EU member countries are not all happy with the unfriendly EU- Russian relationship so I'm not sure the sanctions thing may be all that stable.

So what can they do for each other?
