Another thing that gets overlooked, I think, is that raising the minimum wage isn't a panacea. Folks trying to live on minimum wage eventually face higher daycare costs, higher food prices, etc. It all washes out in the end.

Don't misunderstand me, though, I'm hoping for wages to rise organically, and they are. In Little Rock, Arkansas, about 18 mos. ago I was seeing signs on Panera Bread front doors offering $10 an hr. for full-time workers and $9 for parttime. I checked the newspapers and could see other evidence of rising wages. When I got back home, this was the main reason I added to stock holdings that would respond to higher inflation.

In my own home area of NW Arkansas, the going wage for most menial work has been $10 hr. for maybe 6 or more years. I would think places like CA would already have prevailing wages much higher than here in AR.
