He can tell you to buy and sell all he wants, but it's always your ultimate decision.

If he told you to sell, you'd make a small profit and he would make a commission. You both win.

If he told you to sell and the stock goes up, he can still claim that he made you money and got him a commission. He wins and you do to. Sorta.

His job is just to move money from your pocket to someone else's pocket and take a little commission out of it to boot.

What a scam! I should get into such a racket!!!

Try e.schwab. I've been with them for a year and I like it. With regard to getting quotes while on travel, many major newspapers provide toll free or local numbers you can use to get quotes. The instructions are usually in their respective financial sections.
To pay premium comission and get no advice is the pits!
