Good detailed post. I don't like protectionism either, but I do believe the best we can hope for is a President and government that works to level the playing field. When other countries try to stack the deck in their own favor, we need to work to counter-balance that. I don't see that as protectionism, but as leveling the playing field, so that American companies and citizens can compete on our goods and services, and our hard work and ingenuity. To not pay attention to those things just drains the wealth the US has accumulated and gives it to foreign companies and citizens, impoverishing the American people. It doesn't have to be that way. We've already seen the hollowing out of the US middle class. That has to be reversed.
