At the end of the theoretical science stuff up to my MScEE, we had compulsory courses in Quantum Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Solid State Physics and, I believe at that time, Electromagnetic Field Theory. Quantum Mechanics and Thermodynamics were OK for normal people like me and so was Solid State Physics.

The Field Theory, hoever, absolutely out of this world, but fortunately 1/3 of it was Microwave Theory, which could be handled by normal people like me.

The professor was locked up in an asylum for 18 months, got pacified, got out and started teaching again. The guy we had was equally crazy, but man, they knew their stuff way beyond the Maxwell Equations and how to use those...
