The fight for unions was bloody because the plutocrats were ruthless. Read some Dickens. Saul Alinsky was teaching the poor how to defend themselves. Life got better with unions and worse when unions declined. In fact there is a perfect correlation. The idea that businesses will treat workers fairly of their own volition is really sort of crazy when you think about it. Just look at the plight of the worker before unions and after unions. Read some history of the plight of the worker before unions. They were horribly abused. I shouldn't need to tell you that!
