Christine -- <<Are you another one of those knee-jerk far right people who think that every attempt at improving the public health is going to end up in a fascist state, Jeff? >>

Yup, that's me. Hell, I don't even think that the state should be allowed to license doctors!

<<I also dispute your assumption that everybody's rights are equal in the United States. >>

I do, too. I believe that everyone should have equal rights, but as we all know, it ain't that way at all...

<<Are you so inconsiderate that it is beyond you to step outside and smoke, or smoke in a sealed room, or smoke in a bar which is owner operated?>>

Christine, I rarely frequent bars that are not owner-operated, I despise sealed rooms, and I don't smoke in places where there is no smoking allowed. I smoke a pipe, and usually do not smoke anywhere I go. My point is that there is absolutely no good purpose in the State of California making bars smoke-free. It is not so much an infringement on the rights of smokers as on the rights of the owners - a bar's atmosphere is its stock-in-trade, and if the owner wants to permit smoking, he should by all means be allowed to do so. You wanna go to a smoke-free establishment, feel free to do so, but the state has no f**king business telling my local pub owner that he has to keep me from enjoying nicotine with my alcohol!

You really don't bother to get to know the people you correspond with, do you?

And yes, I think smoking in a "sealed room" is wonderful, just as I think taking a walk on a "sealed street" is wonderful. Taht's waht we need: plastic bubbles for each and every one of us.
