Folks, can anyone explain the reaction to GW after the announcement this morning? If the market viewed this move as accretive would the stock have gone down? And with 164M shares outstanding, why would GW continue an acquistion strategy that further dilutes it's value?

I don't mind if I'm missing something basic here, just point it out to me. After all I'm just a guy from the software ranks trying to keep up with you oil dudes. (although I can match Big Reds with simmons anyday)

Thanks for highlighting that excellent report, Greenman.

It looks like we have a classic buying opportunity. To paraphrase a famous old duffer, "Buy when there's blood running in the streets". Investors are panicking and dumping while the outlook for this sector remains very strong. More, please. :-)

Thanks for posting that - Helps me keep my sanity - I hope no E&P company comes out in the next few days and announces a reduction in spending because I believe that would fuel the fire but I believe most execs are looking at oil a few years out and realize they need to drill now despite this recent drop in the price of oil. Someone steal Saddams Prozac so he will go out and start using his own oil fields as bombing targets for his army. Holding on by a finger nail.

For those interested-Mike Burke is back. This cat is the Dalai Lama of tech stocks,he called the tech crash and had puts on alot of the big losers;Mu,Gtw,Orcl,Nvls,Wdc,Txn,Hwp,Mot,Atml, muei, prst, amat and a bunch of others. He's not only insightful about techs but a great stockpicker as well.He was positive on the drillers at the beginning of last year and sold in the summer and is now warming up to them more.Says deflationary concerns in the future could hurt the equipment makers unless they are producing cheaply.Take a gander:

My belief is that the deep water drillers are the place to go. The two leaders in that group (DO and FLC) are both extremely attractive based on earnings growth. I'll pick up some FLC later this week and some DO sometime within the next two or three.
