Ned,

Guess time will tell ultimately. At least it appears that a Palisades RAIN will finally open.

Would be a pity to have to set Moe's trees on fire though, wouldn't it?

Looks like there isn't really much new to discuss here for the moment, but next announcements from RAIN are no longer too far away...in a month or so I believe. It will be interesting to see what they do about the coo/pres, as well as what new openings may or may not be announced, given the extra they intend to have from the convertibles, and the fact that the number of announced locations doesn't match up with the number of those currently on the itinerary for the year.

Hey, at least it looks like it might be time for a few techs/biotechs to heat up a bit...guess we'll have to see about that, too.

Jeff..sorry to hear about Netscape....sounds like you inherited your sense of timing from me. Guess now you have to be patient, which is no fun in the market. Hang in there.

Regards,

Marshall

This might have already been discussed on this board, but I think an excellent location for a smaller Rainforest Cafe has to be Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas. Moody Gardens started out as a rehabilitation center for head trauma victims, but it has turned into a mega-cool tourist attraction with an emphasis on the environment and rainforests in particular. They have an actual, living rainforest growing beneath a big glass pyramid that people can walk through and explore. They also have an IMAX theater that shows amazing large-format movies, many about the earth and the environment. Not only that, they are currently building two additional pyramids, one centered on outer space and another unbelievably cool aquarium pyramid featuring penguins, sharks, and many other actual sea creatures!

There is one restaurant at Moody Gardens, called the Garden Restaurant, or something like that, but it is basically a very tame Rainforest Cafe wannabe, with a couple of potted plants to set the mood. Rainforest Cafe would kick tail as the only restaurant at a very cool attraction that brings in millions of people from all over the world who are already interested in Rainforest products! I've been a fan of Rainforest Cafe for a long time, but I have to admit Moody Gardens is rapidly exceeding RAIN's coolness factor!

Check out their web site at moodygardens.com.

p.s. River North RAIN was packed on December 29, with a 90-minute wait at 5:30PM. Grapevine Mills RAIN was even more packed on January 2 with a two-hour wait, which was encouraging for RAIN, but discouraging for our tired travelers, who opted to buy some souvenirs and get back on the road.
