Let me clarify: Lie: Teaching kids that the evidence supports the notion the earth is 6Ky/o and that all of life was created about that time ago, in "kinds" so that common descent is not true. Not a Lie: Teaching kids that the evidence indeed makes it look very much like the earth is about 4.5By/o, and that life appears to be Bs/y/o too, and that the evidence strongly suggests that all life on earth is related via common descent, BUT due to religious beliefs, and via faith, we don't believe that, and instead think yada yada... Most fundamentalist fall into the first category, but you meet some of the latter. Too few unfortunately.
