Bodycam footage released by Baltimore Police Department shows the final moments of a chase between Detective David Kincaid Jr and Curtis Deal, 18, in West Baltimore.

Police say Deal, who was on bail for a series of firearms offences, jumped out of a car Det Kincaid was following and made a run for it.

The youth than comes sprinting from an alley with a large silver pistol in his right hand.

Det Kincaid orders Deal to stop and raises his sidearm but Deal aims his own weapon at the officer at the same time.

The bodycam is pointed away from Deal as the four fatal shots ring out. It returns as Deal tumbles to the ground, the pistol clattering away from him. Deal did not fire the weapon.

Set Kincaid calls in shots fired as another cop approaches Deal. The stricken youth tries to get up briefly, but both police tell him not to move.

Det Kincaid ordered Deal to stop but Deal fled and began to raise his firearmDeal was hit in the abdomen, hip and finger, and died of his injuries.

Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said the shooting was justified and praised Det Kincaid for his bravery.

It has since emerged that Deal had been arrested three times on gun or drug charges in the previous month leading to questions about why he was still out on the street.

“People who have those many gun charges probably should not be on our streets.”

He appeared in court last Monday - the day before his death - on his ninth gun and drugs charged and was given bail by Judge Nicole Taylor.
