So, you think Trump is serious about shaking up the power of the elites, and returning the country to the people. Yeah, that would certainly shake up the big and the mighty. I think many of the "protesters" may have somewhat rational interest in preserving the status quo. Those are the millions who benefited from lucrative government employment (incl. benefits and pensions), and millions of others on the receiving end of the grand (and growing) redistribution project - like, for e.g., softening of the criteria for disability benefits, among many others. Many people have been bribed - but many, as you say, are confused and fighting against their own long term interests (like, having a viable, competitive country). Some are fools who like to be "political" and to feel righteous, while having no clue. Some, also, are paid. Very many - including many RINOs and most of the media - have lost any perspective, have become irrational, and are willing to risk serious damage to the nation.
