3/3/2017 Contest update
After Friday’s IPO, is there any doubt we’re in a Snapchat market. Unknown, however, is how much time will elapse before it snaps back.
Meanwhile, biotechs had a snappy week. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 12.92% YTD (vs. up 6.23% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 14.14% YTD (vs. up 9.43 YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up a sizzling 20.56% YTD (vs. up 13.72% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 9.06% YTD (vs. up 8.59% YTD a week ago).
Contest leader, BIOADD’s portfolio, had another stellar week and is now up a prodigious 56.43% YTD. Jumping into second place, DODGY’s portfolio, up 35.61% YTD, got a big boost from its 20% allocation to penny stock PPHM. YVR’s portfolio, up 33.76% YTD, fell back to third place.
At Friday's close, 45 of the 48 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 22 beating the NBI and 10 beating the hot SPSIBI.
The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have an average YTD gain of 15.85% and a median YTD gain of 9.07%, with 120 of the 195 picks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments:
1) CLCD buyout at $46.50 by Eli Lily. I used Friday, 3/3/17, close for reallocation. CLCD only held in BMAZ’s Contest portfolio.
2) WGBS buyout at $7.3471 by Takara closed. Lucky me, I hold WGBS in my real world portfolio, but no cash yet received in my account. So I’ll wait to do reallocation. Wouldn’t you guess, WGBS only held in BIOADD’s Contest leading portfolio.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy an almost spring weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
