They don't have them at all entry points, but there are RFID counters which can count the amount of cash in different currencies you're carrying - the same way many retail stores and warehouse now take inventory. The RFID is that metal "security thread" embedded in the plastic or paper money.

As you suggest, they already know the answers to many of the questions they ask you, like are you carrying cash, when was the last time you were here.

I completely respect the value of the function they perform, but they can do it nicely and at the right time and place.

The US doesn't have internal Passport like IDs like Germany and many countries do, which makes it very difficult for an employer or anyone else to truly verify if the person is a citizen or has a work-permit. The American right-wing and left-wing have long held conspiracy theories which have prevented the use of internal Passports. Trying to make Driver's Licenses into a substitute, with the ReaID program is a lousy substitute.

Given this, it's unacceptable that US Customs and Border agents are checking the IDs of Americans getting off a domestic flight from another part of the United States as they did on the Delta flight.

If they were looking for a particular person, and they found no one, there's no reason for them to check the IDs of men and woman - a particular person you're looking for is one or the other and they have a particular height. This is just some deviant's idea of a way to to show their authority in an illegal and inappropriate way.

We have Sentry/Trusted Travelers IDs, so they've done background checks on us, but that doesn't mean much if some group in the White House or Customs and Border simply wants to intimidate all Americans. They can pull you over and harass you in spite of being in the program.

I've had members of my extended family with security clearances and they know what type of limitations this imposes, not allowed to travel to certain countries, sometimes they need to report any plans they have to travel outside of a certain radius. My Uncle's cars had government Lo-Jack type devices which allowed his cars to be tracked by satellite - but he knew this was all a trade-off for being CEO of a defense contrator.

Countries like East Germany or Yugoslavia who lavished resources on people to follow me everywhere I went in their country is a twisted waste of resources. As a Swiss border guard told me when I was surprised how little interest he had in my Passport, "By 2 am we'll know where you stay every night, so they have similar levels of control without wasting someone to tail you.

We can all see that Trump and his coterie are not only not up to the job they have to or want to do, but they clearly have values and ideas which are flatly UnAmerican, like the Press is an enemy of the American people - Trump is quickly discovering how impotent and helpless an American President can be when Congress, government workers, the courts and most of the population reject you and your ideals - He's still President, but a President who can't do or accomplish much.

I'm watching an author on "Charlie Rose", Tyler Cowan, who wrote "The Complacent Class" The Self-Defeating Quest for the American Dream. - amazon.com

He says he calls Trump "the placebo President" because although he's accomplishing nothing, like a placebo many feel better.

Many felt they had little control over their lives, and Trump makes them feel they do now - even thought he's accomplished no actual real-world betterment of their lives.

I'd have to agree with that.

The only time I have been bothered crossing the US/ Cad border. Was once years ago with a friend. When asked if we were bringing anything across with us, my buddy jokingly replied, Oh Hell yes we got a whole load of contraband stashed.
Finally got through a couple of hours later. Car needed refurbishing. Put it on your n Not to do list
