This country has been moving to the Right since 1980 and the Democrats have contributed to that movement just as much as the Republicans. There was very little fight or opposition when Reagan and Bush II came to power. And now we are stuck with a snake oil salesman who is a better actor than Reagan. This guy got elected President because of the ineptness of the Democratic Party. They went to destroy Sanders because he was an independent, not a Democrat.

The elites in the Democratic Party, the Epicures, SiouxPals, the Cautious_Optimists (who I personally like) think the people were played, deceived by Trump. No, I give people more credit than that. Obama was in power for 8 years and people didn't go for his lies, his BS. Obama was the one who played us. That's how Trump got elected. He stepped into an ideal situation, with Hillary Clinton having no agenda or plan outside of attacking Donald Trump as a wacko and calling his supporters, "deplorables."

No, it is the Democratic Party who made the election of Donald Trump possible.

And now I want to see the Party revamped from the ground up before an even bigger disaster takes place in 2020.

Good point about Obama coming to the WH as the financial fraudsters were melting down, imploding, and extorting the public, and we lived to tell the tale.

But no criminal prosecutions, sealing our future fate. I suspect Trump will be even worse by a mile, though, although the cocaine high we'll get will be a blast for a while.

Beautiful post, well balanced. That was vintage Mannie. However, I must say there were many people in my neighborhood who were outraged (and I was one of them) by the Obama bail outs of the Auto Makers and Banksters. Obama played G-d here. Yes, my first (late) wife made a good case for the banks since once all the banks fail, the next thing to go is the current state of Government. And that was what was perhaps needed to bring about the emergence of the Progressive agenda we both seek. So, I was very much against the bail outs of the banks since I was looking for real Progressive change. As for the auto makers, I never had much feeling for them. I remember buying a 1980 Ford Mustang and six months later, the wires spliced under the hood for no apparent reason and I was stuck in a dangerous ghetto and had to be towed. When I got to the shop, the supervisor said to me "shit happens". I said "the way Ford makes cars is shit." That was the last American car I bought and since then no major problems at all.
