They make the same mistake with the Nordic countries of 5 million -- not even the equivalent of a single American city in population. In some of those countries there is a reasonable chance you know personally one of the relevant political figures who can get things done. Here, very few have that convenience. And few politicians have enough pull to solve problems of that nature (when I was a tax professional I got legislative help on a couple of tax issues, but only because they tend to have dedicated people to deal with IRS issues, and because I had clients who were getting screwed unduly hard). It is just different when there are ten damned levels of management between top and bottom. You can't get problems solved.
