Goodwill

My trusty Financial Statement Analysis book defines the intangible asset of goodwill as representing the excess of the cost over the value ascribed to the net tangible assets of businesses acquired. This goodwill may be amortized or written off. TASA decided to write-off a major bulk of the goodwill generated by their recent acquisitions. The goodwill may be viewed as the premium paid above and beyond the actual accounting value of a business when it is purchased.

Yes, the numbers do look encouraging. IMHO the stock is undervalued given the fact that TASA would have been marginally profitable if they had decided to amortize the goodwill instead of taking a charge. I concur that the stock price will appreciate as positive sequential quarterly numbers are released along with tangible news.

Regards,

Tom
