Jeff, be careful with that short position. IMO the only news you are likely to see coming from ASND in the short term is likely to be ...........large contract announcements, new products, beating earnings estimates, and dare I suggest (buyout). The shorts have had there day with ASND, the tide has turned.

<<\reverse and go short after I watched the action this afternoon. Sell on the news...>

selling on the news is one thing, going short is another;
going for short is quite unlike going for long; kind of a short-distance runner; it can burn-out quick or can get a homerun.

It might be a bad timing. ASND looks very bullish now. Its fundamentals have been dramatically improved:1) 56KFlex modems have been selling very well recently which bodes well for its RAS products; 2) its Frame Relay and ATM backbone products have been rolling out and dominated/leaded the industries; 3) it is going to announce to beat estimates for last quarter(Q4); 4) CC after earning report is going to illustrate a bright and rosy 1998. If everything goes as expected, ASND should hit $40 by Feb and $50~$60 by April. IMHO.

Regards,

The short term trading cycle for ASND has been topping out around 27.5. So your short would generally be a good idea. However, the volume dropped off today. A reversal on weak volume doesn't usually hold.

Be careful and be ready to cover if volume picks back up tomorrow.
