My experiences with police in AZ and CA have left me the feeling that I escaped fascist states.

I have thought about retiring in Corvallis or Eugene. I have cousins in Eugene, and I was born and went to university 1 year in Corvallis. I returned there for an afternoon last May... I really like the area. But I'd be killed in taxes in retirement there.

I Washington, it's all sales tax, so when you are mostly done buying stuff, you pay much less tax.

In Oregon, it's all income tax, and pretty steep if I remember correctly, so in effect also on food, rent or mortgage, medical, utilities, property tax.

I love the desert, would consider Arizona. They are becoming more enlightened, although very slowly according to my friends in Phoenix.

Or maybe we'll just stay in Washington... just not Seattle. Infrastructure taxes, and now a threatened income tax to come up with money to pay for a tsunami of homeless living here or migrating here. My property tax used to be 1/8th of my mortgage. Now it is 45% as much as the mortgage payment.
