I think a reasonable rule (for future years) is that the contestant can either keep the buyout cash as cash or reallocate it pro rata among all remaining stocks in the portfolio (as is done under the current rule). The choice would have to be made at the time of the deal closing and would be irrevocable.

(Selective reallocation of the buyout cash gives way too much leverage to the contestant, IMO.)
