If you personally "remember the Maine" under oath, you go to prison.

If William Randolph Hearst, whose newspapers spread the Maine story, was later asked about the Maine under oath he would have been far more specific and careful about what he remembered.

Had he found himself under oath Hearst's answers may have embarrassed himself and disgraced his newspapers, but he would have stayed out of prison.

True, and my intent is not to allege that perception management is always ok or can't be horribly mis-used.
