I have made alot of comment on EC about the politics and doing business in Kazakstan. You are right the oil lads really like this country - every small and most of the larger oil companies are there in ernest. We have been progressing the environmental and project permitting and this has gone far quicker than in any other country in which I have worked.

I j\had the interesting experienmce of speing a week recently in Mexico - have not seen so much heavy weaponry since the last war zone I was in in Eastern South America a couple of years ago - and some of those lads we smaller than the fully autoimatic guns which they were carrying- I have a minor problem in investing in countries where the locals believe that the law and order situation is so critical as to require a heavy armed presence - you do not see this in Kazakstan.

Regards

John Menzies

marcos, thanks for the input. Seems that this oil co. is quite happy. biz.yahoo.com

Hurricane is one of the companies that was previosly pointed out, around post 300, to suggest that doing business in Kazakhstan is not a good idea.
