chas, I like your method of judging the over/under valuation of stocks, and have used this method myself for some time. By the way, it seems that Warren Buffett uses this method also, after factoring in expected growth in future years. See the book "Buffetology"

thanks for the wonderfully eloquent econ 101 lesson. However,
I might add one thing to what you said:

You really want to compare cash flow rather than earnings. In
RADAF's case, the two are closely related, but in some instances
there is a substantial amount of depreciation/amortization
taking place. Case in point, DSWLF.
