Ames Announces Small Shareholder Sales Program ROCKY Hill, Conn., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Ames Department Stores, Inc., (Nasdaq: AMES - news) today announced that it will offer a small shareholder sales program which will provide shareholders who own 99 or fewer shares of Ames Department Stores common stock an opportunity to sell all of their shares of Ames' common stock. This 30-day program is scheduled to begin on January 5, 1998, and will expire on February 5, 1998, unless extended by Ames. The company is offering the program so that stockholders of odd-lot shares have a convenient option for selling their shares. The purchase price under this program will be equal to the weighted average of the price received for shares sold on the open market through this program. A processing fee of 85 cents ($0.85) per share, with a maximum processing fee of $25 per shareholder, will be charged to defray program administration costs. Ames Department Stores, Inc. has retained ChaseMellon Shareholder Services to manage the program. ChaseMellon is mailing information about the program today to all eligible Ames shareholders.
