>> Why is it so important to Republicans that Obamacare be repealed and replaced?

I feel that way because I think the ACA was insanely broad and all the pieces are pretty much interconnected. Rather than a piecemeal repeal, I think it would make more sense to repeal the entire law then add back those provisions that are worth keeping but not covered by the new law.

But I've always been for repeal/replace. It just makes the most sense to me.

of course it's purely political... the republicans have never wanted any kind of universal health care

the whole plan is basically to stick it to poor folks and middle class and give tax breaks to the wealthy

just like building the stupid wall at the Mex border to the tune of $20 billion plus makes no sense

and now they want to cut FEMA, Coast Guard, and port security funds to pay for the stupid wall

Is that once again, politics?

That's my take. The R's never cared about government health systems. They yapped at the D's for ten years about Obamacare, told their base that it was an abomination, promised to repeal it, and had all those symbolic votes to repeal. Now they are the dog that caught the car. Egad! Gotta do something. This is something. Maybe it will pass the laugh test. Maybe it will actually improve things. Mostly it's get the tick mark for having kept their promise and move on to things they care about.
