Sony's DVCAM Products Quickly Become Mainstay of the Professional Digital Video Market
Sony Electronics today announced that as of October, 1997, 30,000 units of DVCAM equipment were sold worldwide after less than a year of availability. The digital production equipment can be used in an all-DVCAM system, or individual components can be added to an existing analog, digital or hybrid production system.
"The digital, component video quality and flexibility of the DVCAM line has won over a significant number of professional video users," said Robert Ott, director of video communications for Sony Electronics' Business and Professional Group. "The line has found a home in several varied environments."
DVCAM equipment is currently being used in such applications as field acquisition for First Light Films' "EcoTours" series, in sports arenas like Jack Kent Cooke Stadium, for feature documentaries "The Real Stuff" and "Sahara," for corporate videography by service providers like AV Tech Services, and in government facilities like San Diego's government access channel.
According to Ott, the DVCAM system has quickly become a leader in digital video production by giving everyone from the independent videographers to major post houses the features and video quality they need, with a potential price and migration path.
DVCAM Family
The DVCAM line includes the ES-7 EditStation(TM) editing system, the new Triax camera control system, the DSR-PD1 hand-held camcorder, the DSR-200 shoulder-mount camcorder, DSR-130 DSP camera/recorder system comprised of the DSR-1 dockable recorder and the DXC-D30 DSP camera. The DVCAM VTRs include the DSR-1 recorder, the DSR-30 editor/feeder, the DSR-60 player, the new DSR-80 editing recorder and the DSR-85 high-speed editing recorder.
