My entire career in aerospace/aircraft/ rockets.Nobody ever 'made it' without political/military support. From early days of air-mail contract to save the Boeing Co.to the present subsidies for airport construction/ATC. CEO Thompson must be one outstanding fellow. But he has some NASA support.
