Who is going to insure the sick except society as a whole?

For what? Let nature take it's course. Nobody insured the neanderthals or cavemen, and you still managed to be around annoying people with FAKENEWS. Sickness weeds out the weak and makes a species stronger.

"Who is going to insure the sick except society as a whole?"

It is not a digital answer. There are different facets to the answer.

For example - if someone who could have purchased insurance but chose to gamble and lost - they pay with all of their assets - and then society steps in. They do not deserve to be bailed out by society.

Those who are wise and purchase insurance - deserve to be taken care of based on what they purchased. Beyond that their assets are at risk before society steps in.

Those who have no assets - well we have to take care of them.

Some how the concept of what insurance is needs to apply.

We cannot have people dying in the streets. We cannot have people gaming the system living large at the expense of society.

The real issue is what components of health care are ever the responsibility of society. If someone does not like the bone structure of their nose is that the responsibility of society. Other such questions naturally follow.
