The STM also uses liquid helium for cooling that allows the atoms to retain their magnetic orientations long enough to be written and read.

At around -452F, where every substance except helium is a solid, it would be difficult to make a device that fits in your pocket. That's a limitation in physics, not engineering.

Maybe specialized data centers if it is possible to make a practical device.
