>>Given that the size of work week
may have tapered down from pre Christmas levels, the crew size still says a lot and is

Hi Wayne,

crew size Q1 1997 = 950, crew size Q1 1998 ~ 2300 as I recall
from CC. Isnt this 250% increase or are you assuming a smaller
Q1 98 crew size.

j.

Hi Wayne,
Can't give you the detail you are asking for for the reasons you mentioned, however, no major workforce change since the CC; incidentally you are correct that we work very different shifts in Q1 and Q2 than Q3 and Q4 where we will pull out all the stops and possibly work up to 1.3 times as many hours (or more) with overtime etc. Another issue is mixing apples and oranges - workers in China is not all of the China employees (we have salaried staff there as well) to clarify, the numbers given in the press release were 2485 staff and workers compared to 1223 at the end of Novemeber 1996. The other numbers for 1996 you are using are production workers only and it is important not to mix the two up. (Similarly if you wanted to compare workers to workers from Nov 96 to Nov 97 it would be about 2200 in 97 and 1000 in 96). Hope this helps.

Best regards,

David
