Yeah... as a Canadian we don't generally sleep with guns handy :) But it is a misunderstanding that Canadians don't have access to firearms... We do especially to "long guns" for hunting and hobby. Generally speaking we don't have hand guns at home unless it is required for our work,,, armed guards or gun collectors for example but a special permit is required for that and in the case of collectors they must be secured. I believe if you belong to a gun club or firing range then you can get a permit to use a pistol there but if taken home they must be locked in a secure gun safe and if transported to another location they must be in a locked secure box in your trunk.... and basically most of us here like it that way.

I have 2 wafers of gold in a safety deposit box... just in case of a financial collapse. But thinking it over, what would I do if I had this gold and I needed $100 of groceries and money was worthless??? Take a hacksaw with me to carve off a piece??? seems ridiculous to me, don'cha think???

I have been to Asian countries - Thailand and China. I think they have the right idea when it comes to buying Gold. they buy 24kt gold chain.... much better... just as easy to store in a SD box... Now in that apocalypse and needing groceries... you take side cutters and cut as many links out of the chain as you think you will need. You don't risk the whole bit.

Similarly though not as necessary due to the lower price for Silver... for the apocalypse I might buy 99.99 silver chain

Makes sense to me...

I laugh at people who buy copper bullion for the same purpose ... scrap copper cost $3-4 CDN per pound!!! but the bullion is like $9/lb... not much different in quality..... but say you bought $10,000 worth of gold... about 8 one ounce coins...easy to store in a SD box. But $10,000 worth of copper bullion??? you would have over 1000 lbs of the stuff...cannot store it in a safety deposit box... where are you going to keep it... in the garage? in a Security locker...?

That makes no sense to me. :)
