If farm labor is going to turn into a respected, living-wage-paying job because of policy changes, it is going to take time. The article you posted seems like it is moving in that direction. So what part of the article tweaked your interest exactly? The possible end of exploiting illegal immigrants? The new higher paying job opportunities for domestic workers? The more expensive food costs for some labor intensive foods (example: wine) that will likely follow? Business men being forced to remodel their businesses around higher wages? Or something else?

I suspect that a lot of hard agricultural labor jobs would require about $40.00 an hour or so to attract domestic labor. That wage would eliminate many agricultural enterprises as uneconomic, reducing the demand for labor. It would also require tariffs on imported food to prevent low wage countries from flooding our markets.
