We know a Canadian friend who told us he needed surgery, so he had to travel the the U.S. for that surgery because he couldn't get it in Canada, they told him he's not eligible because he's too old... to me that sounded like a death panel... was he correct in what he told us??? TIA .
well it is possible... but not knowing the details... what was the surgery type, how old is the person. Was the surgery available in the USA at what cost (it would have to be a very specialized surgery)

Perhaps due to his age... he was judged not to be able to survive the surgery. As I said there is always the option to seek surgery or treatment elsewhere on your own nickle. I am sure a private hospital would undertake the procedure whether the patient survived or not as long as the bills were covered.

But that situation is very rare.

I would counter that situation by a hearing of patients dying of cancer, losing their insurance because of it and watching their wealth disappear and leaving a burden on their family.

We also here of hospitals in the USA taking a look at an accident victim's wallet before admitting them to their hospital to see if they can afford treatment.

Am I correct in understanding that this is possible in the USA?
