Our Canadian friend was an older fellow, but that you had to ask also suggests that there is in fact a cut off for age... that doesn't exist here..
Not true at all.... you don't say what the problem was or his age.

As I amended to my previous message perhaps in the judgement of the physicians he consulted in Canada, the patient in question was at a high risk of not surviving the surgery and they advised against it.

You are not limited to Canada if you wish to go to the USA, India, Mexico or Thailand for healthcare that is not offered or recommended in Canada but you would have to foot the bill yourself..

We are not Soylent Green in this country as matter of fact Life expectancy in

Canada is: Male 80.2 years ......... Female 84.1....ranking 12th in the world

USA is: Male 76.9years ......... Female 81.7....ranking 31 in the world

we have no deficit regarding healthcare overall.

Anyone of us can point to horror stories of healthcare gone wrong in each country....but the fact is 82% of Canadians support our healthcare system...nothing overtly wrong with it.

I don't think my understanding is too out of line when I read articles like this one

Here are the top 10 reasons why people go bankrupt:

1. Medical Expenses

A recent Harvard University study showed that medical expenses account for approximately 62 percent of personal bankruptcies in the US. Interestingly, the study also showed that 72 percent of those who filed for bankruptcy due to medical expenses had some type of health insurance, thus debunking the myth that only the uninsured face financial catastrophes due to medical-related expenses.
